News / S.W.A.T. / Television ♦ March 18, 2017

Great news, guys! Alex has signed on for a series regular role for the CBS drama pilot, S.W.A.T., which was inspired by the 2003 film of the same title.

Australian actor Alex Russell has booked a series regular role opposite Shemar Moore in CBS drama pilot S.W.A.T., executive produced by The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, Neal H. Moritz, Justin Lin and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas. Written by Thomas and directed by Lin, S.W.A.T. is described as an intense, action-packed procedural following a locally born and bred S.W.A.T. lieutenant, Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson (Moore), torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers when he’s tasked to run a highly-trained unit that is the last stop for solving crimes in Los Angeles. Russell will play Jim Street. Cocky, living on the edge, Street has earned himself a reputation as a loose cannon with no regard for safety – he’s also the newest member of Hondo’s team.

O’Donnell also wrote the script for Sons of Salt, which leading man Russell previously described to IF as “a brutal vicious crime drama set in Maroubra over four different time periods.”

The project is currently being financed, with a budget mooted around the $3-4 million mark. O’Donnell tells IF he’s hoping to start shooting in Sydney in the second half of 2017.

“Chronicle” star Alex Russell has come on board the sci-fi thriller “Attach” with Chris Gorak directing from his own script.

Adam Schroeder, whose producing credits include “Chronicle” and “Sleepy Hollow,” will produce under his Adam Schroeder Entertainment banner alongside Rob Paris (“The Blackcoat’s Daughter”) of Paris Film. But when he realizes the advanced intelligent prosthetics may have a destructive mind of their own, he begins a desperate fight to save himself and everyone around him.

“We’re going to explore the most current and innovative science and technology in this film,” said Schroeder. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of Chris Gorak’s provocative vision and distinctive worldview.”

News / RED / Short Films ♦ September 26, 2016

Painter Del Kathryn Barton’s RED, starring Cate Blanchett, will premiere at the Art Gallery of South Australia next year.

A surrealist short, RED is a “savage tale of female power” inspired by the mating rituals of the red-back spider.

“This brutal chronicle spoke to me of the poetics of female power as an inherent and indeed, elemental force in the universe. By intercutting human protagonists with extraordinary macro footage, RED has evolved into what I now consider to be an uncompromising celebration of female power,” said Barton in a statement.

As well as Blanchett, the film stars Alex Russell and Sydney Dance Company’s Charmene Yap.

“We are thrilled to be part of this brand new commission,” said Art Gallery of South Australia director Nick Mitzevich. “RED will take Del’s career to a new level and to new audiences, and with the support of the Contemporary Collectors the work will also enter the Art Gallery’s collection’.

Presented as part of the 2017 Adelaide Festival, RED will run from January 26 to April 30. Admission is free.

Blood in the Water / News / Posters / Video ♦ August 20, 2016

Blood in the Water, previously known as Pacific Standard Time, will open in select theaters on August 26th! The film stars Willa Holland, Alex Russell, and Miguel Gomez. Variety has also reported that the film will be available on demand on Time Warner Cable, Comcast, iTunes, DirecTV, Amazon Instant, Dish Network, Vubiquity, Vudu and others, on the same day.

Percy (Alex Russell) and Veronica (Willa Holland) have been housesitting at a palatial modern spread in the Hollywood Hills for the summer, but the real world of New York, jobs and young professional struggles are merely days away. Nonetheless they are in a hurry to leave this paradise, because the tranquility was broken by an unwanted visit by former college classmate Freedgood (Miguel Gomez). His time since their liberal arts’ years has been marked by imprisonment, shady business associations, and drug dealing. And as we learn quickly, this has lead to the man’s demise, an interested LAPD detective, and a longing for the everyday strife that seems so much more desirable than staying in their false Eden.
